Lycée Français du Caire, PPP 2007 – Concept Project
WDG provided the Preliminary Structural design governed by a criteria that optimized the construction cost, coordinated with the needs of other trades (architectural, mechanical, electrical, HVACetc) and considered the physical needs of these buildings regarding open space and clear heights.
The suggested floor systems consisted of Solid slabs with projected beams acting as a paneled beam slab at the gymnasium at the basement, the multi-purpose room at the Ground floor, and the documentation center at the first floor. At the parking area in the basement, pick-up girders were designed to take the loads of upper floors by columns planted at the ground floor framing plan.
The design incorporated Flat slabs with a grid of 7.5 x 7.5ms, frames for relatively large spans such as the swimming pool areas, steel trusses for large spans on top of open gymnasium, and auditorium to support the loads of a light cover.
